Since I wrapped up my 2nd doctoral course this semester at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, I'm sharing some reflections about the insights I've gained about my leadership style. Throughout this course, I've distilled my philosophy into four guiding principles that are vital to my mission and vision in the realm of public health.🌟 My mission is to infuse creativity into public health, empowering professionals in this field to find and amplify their unique voices. It's about helping them shape their narratives and earn the recognition they deserve, highlighting the indispensable role of public health in our society.🌍 My vision is to see public health interwoven with the arts, fostering innovative solutions that enhance well-being. I envision public health professionals as recognized storytellers and change-makers, contributing to a more dynamic and enriched society.🔍 Reflecting on my own practice, I've realized the importance of leading with integrity, self-awareness, justice, and creativity. These principles have not only shaped my approach but also enabled me to navigate complex situations with empathy and understanding. From being a student liaison during a challenging time to advocating for fair treatment and fostering an environment of creativity and innovation, these experiences have reinforced my belief in these core values.As I continue my doctoral journey, I remain committed to these principles, striving to make a meaningful impact in the world of public health. I Took The Leap ...🤾🏽♀️....✅ Many years ago I was trying to figure out what was the next move for me as a recent graduate with a science degree. ✅ After I did some research online ... I came across The National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. I decided at that moment, that is exactly where I'm supposed to be. 🎯 ✅ But I had a major dilemma. I was in Stillwater Oklahoma and The National Institutes of Health was in Bethesda Maryland. ***Everyone asked me, who do you know at NIH? My answer was, no one. ***They asked, Is there a job waiting for you when you arrive? My answer, No ***They asked, are you afraid My answer, yes but I’m going to do it anyway ***They asked, How are you going to get from Oklahoma to Maryland? My Answer, I will drive ✅ As soon as I walked across the stage of Oklahoma State University, I Took The Leap...✅ With only $600.00, a Penske Moving truck, a blue Chevy Cavalier on a trailer, and my 8-year-old son in tow... I set out to chase my dream of working at the National Institute of Health. ✅ I knew I had a seed of greatness within me and it was time to reposition myself in an environment, where I could thrive! ✅ It was a risk, but I believed in myself and my vision, I surrounded myself with people who would take me higher. I Dared myself to Dream Bigger !! I would later realize this Leap would supersede my expectations!Not only did I work at the NIH, but I would later go on to lead teams and sit in committees as a member as well and gain extraordinary mentors .As well as, open the NIH doors to underserved youth, to give exposure, that would allow them the opportunity to dream beyond their circ*mstances, like I did !With the support of Carmelle T. Norice , Roland Owens and The Children Inn at NIHThis Leap has taught me that, everything you want is on the other side of fear.
