How to use the U.S. Silver Dime Melt Value Calculator.

First decide what method you will be using to indicate the amount of U.S. 90% silver dimes to calculate. You can enter your amounts either by the total quantity of silver dimes, the total face value of your silver dimes, or by the total weight of your U.S. 90% silver dime collection. You could also use a combination of methods depending on how your dimes are stored.

The first three options are for entering an exact count of U.S. 90% silver dimes. You can choose from the Barber Silver Dime, the Mercury Silver Dime or the Roosevelt Silver Dime minted from 1946-1964. Use the text box to the right of each silver dime description (blue link) to enter a number representing the total quantity of 90% silver dimes that you wish to know the silver melt value of. As an alternative, you can simply click on the silver dime picture, or its link, to increase the value in its text box by 1. The calculator will automatically update the Total Silver Value (in red), whenever a change is made to the amounts in any of the text boxes.

The next option below is for entering the amount of U.S. 90% silver dimes by rolls of 50. This has the same effect as entering a value of 50 in any of the single silver dime option text boxes. This option is nice if you like to store your 90% dimes in rolls or coin tubes. If you received your silver dimes already rolled, then be sure to inspect them to determine that they are all of the 90% silver variety. If not, then your calculation will be inaccurate. This calculator is only designed for measuring the silver melt value of U.S. 90% silver dimes minted from 1892-1964.

Your next five options are for entering your amounts by the face value of your 90% silver dimes. There are $1, $10, $50, $100, and $1000 options each representing 10, 100, 500, 1,000, and 10,000 dimes respectively. This option works well if your 90% dimes are stored in canvas bags. You can also use decimal values for partial bags. For example, a value of 1.5 entered into the $10 Face Value Text Box would be equal to a $15 face value.

Your final four options allow you to calculate the melt value of your U.S. 90% silver dimes by weighing them. You can choose to weigh by either ounces, pounds, grams, or kilograms. Just enter a whole number or decimal representing the total weight in the appropriate weight text box. If you are weighing your 90% silver dimes inside a container or bag, be sure to subtract the weight of your container first. Do note that these are not Troy ounces or pounds. They are U.S. standard ounces and pounds (a.k.a. Avoirdupois).

The Total Silver Value is computed based on the U.S. Dollar amount displayed in the Silver Price text box. You could also use one of the other major world currencies available in the drop-down menu located underneath the prices. The default price is updated frequently during normal trading hours. The Silver Price can be changed to indicate how much you are wanting to pay per ounce for the silver content in any lot of U.S. 90% silver dimes. This can help you in determining the maximum bid you should submit for an online silver dime auction.

The U.S. silver dime calculator talliestotal silver value and total silver content with respect to the measure of silver contained in uncirculated silver dimes having no wear. If your dimes have some wear from being circulated, they will not consist of as much silver. You might want to include a percentage of that wear in the "Amount of Wear" text box. A measure larger than the default of 0 (zero), will decrease the total silver value and total silver weight results accordingly.
